The collection consists of the reminiscences of early Athens by Reverend Henry Newton. They include recollections of his childhood from 1830-1842. Also included is the original manuscript, as well as a copy that was published in the "Papers of the Athens Historical Society", volume 2, 1979.

Henry Newton, born in Athens, was licensed to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in 1845 by the Hopewell (now Athens) Presbytery. He served in the Athens area until around 1877.
